NC-SARA Disclosures
State-by-State Licensure and Complaint Information
Licensure. A state’s laws may require individuals to be licensed or have a certificate to teach in that state. If a student lives outside Illinois and is pursuing a degree in education with licensure, it is important for that student to determine whether their degree from VanderCook complies with the licensure requirements for that state. Educator licensure information is provided below for each of the United States and Puerto Rico.
Federal state authorization regulations and NC-SARA do not affect professional educator licensing requirements communicated by individual states. These academic programs are considered separate from approval intended to qualify students for professional licensure.
Although state authorization requirements vary from state to state, VanderCook’s participation in NC-SARA allows the College to offer online programming to students in other NC-SARA member states without seeking authorization in that state. Once again, professional licensure in your home state may have different requirements for clinical or internship experiences, or course requirements that differ from the requirements in Illinois. We strongly encourage you to reach out to the educator licensing agency in your home state before enrolling in an academic program outside of your home state. A complete state by state listing of licensing and complaint information, is listed below.
Complaint Information. If a student lives outside of Illinois and has a complaint regarding the education that they are receiving from VanderCook College of Music, the following complaint procedures have been established. As stated in our College Catalog, we encourage students to seek resolution to any concerns by discussing them informally with a faculty or staff member at VCM. If a complaint cannot be handled informally, students may seek resolution of their concerns by following the following complaint procedures linked here.
If a complaint cannot be resolved by following VanderCook’s complaint procedures, the student may contact the Illinois Board of Higher Education or the Higher Learning Commission. If the student resides in another state, they may contact the NC-SARA Portal Agency of that state .
