This summer, VanderCook College of Music hosted a String Workshop led by our Director of String Music Education, Dr. Davila-Cortes. Participants were able to work closely with guest lecturers that brought expertise in cello, double bass, and upper strings. Clinics were held throughout the week for each instrument in the orchestra. Other parts of the workshop included discussions on classroom management and rehearsal techniques. We asked participants to describe their favorite activities and something new they learned that they can immediately apply in their music classrooms.
I will use what I have learned when I teach orchestra in the future and have to work with other string instruments besides just my primary (violin) and can even possibly compose or arrange my own piece for my students now that I have more knowledge about composing and arranging!
