Hi, my name is Vinessa, and I teach 3 rd grade, all core subjects and social-emotional learning, at Centennial Elementary School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. When I am not in the classroom, you can find me exploring the great outdoors, traveling, reading a book, or spending time with my two adult children and two dogs.
My teaching philosophy is centered around the idea that every student can succeed in their own way when provided with the correct support and guidance. I believe it is important to find our niche in how our brain learns and not allow barriers to stop us from achieving our full potential. I pride myself in creating a collaborative learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring their ideas with the knowledge that with failur, one can grow. As a teacher, I encourage critical thinking and problem-solving, and I aim to provide a variety of learning opportunities to cater to different learning styles.
With over 15 years of teaching experience, I hold a Master’s in Special Education, a Master’s in Business Administration, and a Doctorate in Teacher Leadership, and am certified to teach K-6 general education and K-21 special education. I have also taught English to ESL students in China.
I have experience working with students in various capacities, including after-school tutoring and clubs, special education pull-out and push-in services in public school and residential environments, and general education as the sole teacher and co-taught classrooms. In 2021, I was awarded "Teacher of the Year" by my school for my innovative classroom practices, dedication to supporting the school in diverse aspects, and dedication to my students.
