Music Teacher Education
Patrick Benson joined the administration of VanderCook in July 2015 as the director of continuing and online education. Benson is also a recipient of VanderCook’s Esprit de Corps Award.
Benson returned to his alma mater having taught for seven years at Hubbard High School in Chicago as the director of bands. While at Hubbard, he led the marching, jazz and pep bands, and was the audio/visual coordinator, as well as the school activity director and a local school council representative. Benson is a member of VanderCook’s Alumni Association and served as its president from 2014-2015.
In addition to teaching and working at VanderCook, Benson is an active percussionist and drummer in the Chicagoland area, and currently serves as the assistant director of the Lakeside Pride Jazz Orchestra.
Benson attended the School for New Learning at DePaul University, earning his Master of Arts in applied professional studies in 2017. While at DePaul, Benson was awarded the School for New Learning’s Student Excellence Award and a Writing Showcase Award.
