Mike Morsovillo serves as the Director of Admissions and Recruiting, and joined VanderCook College of Music in July, 2024. As a native of Chicago’s south side (and a graduate of Marist High School in 1985), Mike started his career in higher education in 1989 at his alma mater, Saint Xavier University. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in English/Secondary Education, and eventually his Master’s in English Literature in 1994. Initially hired as an admission counselor, he had no idea that the path had been cleared for him to remain in the field nearly 35 years later. Mike combines experience in enrollment management, partnership building, and adjunct teaching in English Literature and Composition, as well as Humanities. He has also been a professional musician for over 40 years, playing guitar and bass for numerous bands in the Chicagoland area.
After six years at SXU, Mike embarked on a stage in his career that would last for nearly 27 years: working in transfer admission at Dominican University. He built the transfer recruiting and enrollment processes and procedures from the ground up, including crafting an official transfer recruiting plan, writing and developing marketing materials, assisting with community college transfer guides, and eventually forging academic partnerships. In 2003, he was promoted to Director of Transfer and Adult Admission and developed a management style that was both collaborative and mutually beneficial for his staff.
In 2022, Mike accepted a position at Trinity Christian College as Director of Admissions Partnerships as an opportunity to expand his talents in developing and maintaining beneficial articulation agreements with community colleges, Christian-based high schools, autism clinics, and other businesses.
In the final analysis, Mike brings decades of experience, enthusiasm, and energy to VanderCook. He is keenly aware of the importance of providing that delicate balance of facilitating growth while never losing sight of tradition and legacy. He has the utmost respect for Chicago history and the Arts – especially for recognizing the power of music to inspire.
