John Schreckengost is an established Chicago freelancer since returning to the US after serving as principal horn of the Israel Sinfonietta for seven years. Returning to the United States, John was named principal horn of the Northwest Indiana Symphony in 1991. He also holds positions in the Chicago Sinfonietta and Illinois Philharmonic. Mr. Schreckengost has substituted or played extra with the Chicago Symphony, Lyric Opera, Grant Park Symphony Orchestra, and others. John is a member of the chamber ensembles Chicago Classic Brass, Kaia Winds and the Chicago Horn Consort. The Chicago Symphony closed its June 2013 Tribute to Dale Clevenger concert with John’s arrangement for horns and harp of the Adagietto from Mahler Symphony No. 5. John taught horn at Valparaiso University for thirteen years and is currently the horn Para Pro at Hinsdale Central High School.
