Orff Schulwerk Curriculum & Design
This class will help you organize all of the Orff material and ideas received in level-education classes into a cohesive curriculum, and show you how to implement it in an organized way throughout the school year. Be prepared to teach one 30-minute lesson in the Orff process. The Orff approach will also be compared with the Danielson Framework for Teaching to help you be more successful in your professional evaluations.
Instructors: Jean Hersey & Cynthia Seputis
Jean Hersey is a National Board certified teacher at Deer Path Middle School in Lake Forest, IL, where she has worked for the past 14 years. She teaches fifth and sixth grade general music. In 2012, she won the district’s Innovative Practice Award for her Spring General Music Show, which incorporated music, art, drama, and social studies curricula, and reflected the Medieval and Renaissance time periods. Hersey is also Level I Pedagogy and Movement instructor at VanderCook College of Music.
Cynthia Seputis has a B.S. in Music Ed from the University of Illinois and a Masters of Music Ed from Northwestern University. She completed all three levels of her Orff training at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Cynthia has taught K-5 general music at George B. Carpenter Elementary School in Park Ridge, Illinois for the past twenty-two years. She is a regional presenter and is proud to have been part of the VanderCook Orff team since the program's inception 10 years ago.
