Self-Assessment

With many schools and districts riding the technology wave, a number of new digital tools are available to teachers. This course engages curriculum and technology in cultivating professional competencies related to self-assessment. Whether your school is using GSuite for Education Microsoft O365 apps or other assessment tools, the course is designed to help you learn to use these tools in ways that inform teacher practice and student goal-setting processes. This course does include online coaching sessions for individuals or small groups within the course, scheduling for which will take place during the first week of the course.

10714334_10154761077250691_7662309032874390100_oMark Reid (MMEd ’14) is the arts education coordinator at the British Columbia Ministry of Education. He is the former Director of Bands and Choirs at Vancouver Technical Secondary School, the 2013 MusiCounts Teacher of the Year, and a finalist for the 2015 Global Teacher Prize. Reid holds degrees from VanderCook and the University of Victoria. A career volunteer, he is past president of the Canadian Music Educators’ Association, Secretary of the Coalition for Music Education in Canada, a member of Phi Beta Mu, and on the Program Advisory Council for Music at Vancouver Community College. Reid is also a charter member of the Varkey Teacher Ambassadors, and has lectured at the University of British Columbia, the University of Victoria, and Brandon University. His arrangements for concert band and string orchestra are published by Tempo Press and Grand Mesa Music. In 2016, Reid was guest conductor for Vancouver’s Cor Flammae ensemble. Recent engagements in professional development include presenting at the Disney Performing Arts Educators Summit, organizing the Pre-Summit Day for Teaching Professionals in conjunction with the 5th International Summit on the Teaching Profession in Berlin, and an invitation to the Global Education and Skills Forum in Dubai.

VanderCook Online is powered by Schoology (www.schoology.com). Through this learning management system, you'll be able to interact directly with your instructor, students in your classes, and members of the greater VanderCook Online community.

Summer 2020 MECA courses officially begin on Monday, June 8. Soon after you register, you'll be added as a new Schoology user. Be on the lookout for an email from Schoology with log-in instructions. Once you are given credentials, visit 
www.online.vandercook.edu to login. On the morning of June 8, you'll have access to your classroom and course material.

Some courses have specific online chat meeting times while others have a flexible meeting schedule; please check individual course descriptions and details. You can expect all courses to meet together in a live online chat. If you are unable to attend the scheduled live meeting time, please consult your instructor to make alternative arrangements.

You'll have the opportunity to work at your own pace each week while completing assignments and posting responses to discussion questions. You'll constantly be interacting with your instructor and classmates online, and working through new material each week. We know how crazy school schedules can get, so our instructors try to make everything as flexible as possible!

Transcript requests can be made online using the Transcript Request Form. Any inquiries regarding transcripts should be directed to the Registrar’s Office at 312.788.1151. If you are in need a quick turn around time for your transcript please submit the request to the registrar prior to the end of your course(s).
