Graduate Symposium
in Leadership & Artistic Thinking
ONLINE
February 8–May 9, 2021
This course will engage participants with teachers, artists, and leaders in the field of music performance and music education. Each weekly module will be geared toward a specific topic or experience with a guest speaker. A high level of reflection will be involved for both personal and program needs, as well as interacting with readings and video lectures.

Instructor: Glen Schneider
Glen Schneider (MMEd ‘06) teaches band at Metea Valley High School in Aurora, IL, and directs the Metea Valley Symphony Orchestra, Marching Mustangs, Pep Band and MV Jazz Orchestra. Schneider previously taught band at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, IL; the Oswego Community School District 308 in Oswego, IL, where he taught junior high school and high school band and served as the District Band Coordinator; and the Fox Chapel Area School District in Pittsburgh, where he taught general music and 5th grade band. His education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in music education from Duquesne University, a master’s degree from VanderCook, and Master of Arts in educational technology from Concordia University. Schneider has conducted the IMEA junior and senior jazz ensembles and the Western Sun Conference Honor Band, and has presented clinic sessions at the Illinois Music Education Conference and the Illinois Percussive Arts Society in addition to VanderCook. He has authored review articles for the Music Educators Journal and Teaching Music. He has served in positions for the Fox Valley Music Festival, IMEA District IX, VanderCook’s Alumni Association Board and ARTSpeaks 204, and has been a panel member for the NAMM Foundation Music Achievement Council. He is a member of Phi Beta Mu, and the Vic Firth Education Team. He has received the National Band Association Citation of Excellence Award, and TeachHUB’s Making A Difference Award.

Spring 2021 MECA courses officially begin on Monday, Feb. 8. Soon after you register, be on the lookout for an email from Schoology with log-in instructions. Once you receive credentials, visit www.online.vandercook.edu to login. On the morning of February 8, you'll have access to your classroom and course material.
Some courses have specific online chat meeting times (please see course descriptions), while others have a flexible meeting schedule. You can expect all courses to meet together in a live online chat. If a live meeting time doesn’t work, you can work with your instructor to make other arrangements.
Online grades will be reported by mid-June. If you need a transcript, please visit the online transcript request page. For faster turnaround time, please submit the transcript request to the registrar prior to the end of your course(s).
