Digital Assessment Tools
for the Band, Orchestra
& Choral Director
ONLINE
September 21–December 13, 2020
Integrating technology can save time, enhance the learning experience, and be used as an assessment tool for your music students. In this course, we will focus on free online tools that will help assess student learning in your ensembles, and how to effectively integrate technology in both an e-learning environment and in the rehearsal space. Special emphasis will be on using digital tools in schools with a 1:1 device program (Chromebook, tablet, etc.) and the e-learning environment.
Instructor: Keith Ozsvath
Music educator Keith Ozsvath is passionate about helping other directors improve their craft. He maintains an active schedule as a blogger, professional development leader and middle school band clinician. Ozsvath has been sharing his life-long passion for music with the students at Rotolo Middle School in Batavia, IL, a five-time NAMM Best Community for Music Education, since 2001. Ozsvath currently directs the Symphonic Band, Eighth Grade Band, and Jazz Ensemble, while finding unique ways to integrate technology to enhance his students’ learning.
He has presented numerous professional development sessions for music educators at the Midwest Clinic, Virginia Music Educators Association, Illinois Music Educators Conference, VanderCook College of Music, and the Association of Middle Level Educators. His dedication to teaching has been recognized through the Chicagoland Outstanding Music Educator award in 2015 and twice by Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. In 2017, Ozsvath was honored with an Exemplary Educator Award from the Batavia CANDO parent organization. He was inducted into the Nazareth Academy Fine Arts Hall of Fame in 2018.

MECA Online Course Details
VanderCook Online is powered by Schoology (www.schoology.com). Through this learning management system, you'll be able to interact directly with your instructor, students in your classes, and members of the greater VanderCook Online community.
Fall 2020 MECA courses officially begin on Monday, Sept. 21. Soon after you register, you'll be added as a new Schoology user. Be on the lookout for an email from Schoology with log-in instructions. Once you are given credentials, simply visit online.vandercook.edu to login. On the morning of Sept. 21, you'll have access to your classroom and course material.
Some courses have specific online chat meeting times (please see course descriptions), while others have a flexible meeting schedule. You can expect all courses to meet together in a live online chat. If a live meeting time doesn’t work, you can work with your instructor to make other arrangements.
You’ll have the opportunity to work at your own pace each week while completing assignments and posting responses to discussion questions. You’ll constantly be interacting with your instructor and classmates online, and working through new material each week. We know how crazy school schedules can get, so our instructors try to make everything as flexible as possible!
Online grades will be reported by mid-October. If you are in need of a transcript please visit the online transcript request page. If you are in need a quick turn around time for your transcript please submit the transcript request to the registrar prior to the end of your course(s).
