7976 Ukulele, Level II

This course will deepen ukulele fundamentals while expanding your repertoire of songs, strumming patterns and melodies. You'll learn how to play classic and popular songs that incorporate a broad range of chords and strums, and how to incorporate melodies into both popular songs and music improvisation (soloing). Integrating the ukulele into world drumming arrangements that include drums, percussion, Orff instruments and other is also covered.




Prerequisite: Students should be comfortable playing a variety of commonly used Major, Minor, and Dominant 7 chords, different strumming patterns, and common chord progressions (I-IV-V, '50's, Pop, etc.).


Instructor: Kalani Das, MT-BC

Kalani_Das_headshotKalani Das, MT-BC is a world percussion specialist with more than 30 years of professional experience. He is a certified Orff-Schulwerk educator, a board-certified music therapist, and is a requested presenter at conferences worldwide. Kalani has worked with music legends Barry Manilow, Yanni, Kenny Loggins, and Rod Stewart. He is the founder of the DCM approach to community music making and a member of the Music Therapy Drumming training team. Kalani has written over nine books and produced numerous instructional DVDs and music CDs. He presents workshops, retreats, and residencies for students, teachers, therapists, and the general public. kalanimusic.com and playsinglaugh.com.

Fall 2020 MECA courses officially begin on Monday, Sept. 21. Soon after you register, be on the lookout for an email from Schoology with log-in instructions. Some courses have specific online chat meeting times (please see course descriptions), while others have a flexible meeting schedule. You can expect all courses to meet together in a live online chat. If a live meeting time doesn’t work, you can work with your instructor to make other arrangements.

Online grades will be reported by mid-June. If you need a transcript, please visit the online transcript request page. For faster turnaround time, please submit the transcript request to the registrar prior to the end of your course(s).
