Salvatore A. Grasso 1935 - 2013

Salvatore A. Grasso passed along his passion for music to his students and his work ethic and integrity to his family. Read his story in this 2011 VanderCook Annual Report Article, A Head for Business, an Ear for Music - Grasso Graphics.

“Personal integrity is the most essential element for any teacher, particularly for a band director. You’re closer to the student than any other teacher in the school. A band director has to be a paragon above reproach.”

It is with a heavy heart that VanderCook College of Music announces the passing of Salvatore A. Grasso.  In addition to founding Grasso Graphics Inc., Mr. Grasso was a retired Chicago Public School band director and tireless advocate for music education. The Grasso Family has been associated with VanderCook College of Music for many years.  They are regular attendees at VanderCook events and loyal, generous supporters of the Great Teachers Scholarship Fund.  The Grasso Family asks that donations be directed toward VanderCook's
Inspire. Build. Sustain. Capital Campaign where a memorial for Salvatore A. Grasso will be established. This initiative will transform a 25,000-sq-ft. building on campus into a state-of-the-art performance and education center, and secure the future of music education everywhere.
