The Morton and Iris Manus Scholarship is a $500–$1,000 annual renewable award to an undergraduate student who demonstrates financial need. Preference is given to students who are not Illinois residents. The award is based on merit at the time of admission and is renewable provided the student maintains full-time enrollment status, earns a 2.5 semester GPA, and participates in ensembles as assigned.

Morty and Iris Manus have been fierce advocates for music education all their lives. As president of Alfred Music Publishing, Manus has seen the company grow from a small importer of music for silent films under his father, Sam Manus, to one of the leading educational publishers in the world. A musician himself for many years, Manus sympathizes with students whose funds for education are limited. Manus was awarded an honorary doctorate of music by VanderCook in 2008.

“My heart goes out to people who don’t have parents to support their college education. I want to help others take advantage of opportunities,” he says.
