On September 4, 2014, junior-year tubist Jacob Bass was killed in a tragic bicycle accident after leaving campus on his way home. A scholarship was established in his memory. Jacob's incredible passion for music and teaching will impact aspiring young teachers for years to come.

Jacob Bass began as a saxophone player. During his time in the Rich East High School Band program, he switched to tuba. At VanderCook, he excelled in not only learning new instruments, but also helping others to do the same. Jacob was a recognized leader in his community who will be remembered by his incredible faith, his enthusiasm for music, and the positive impact he had on everyone he met. Jacob's scholarship is awarded annually to a first-year tuba player.
