Great Teachers Scholarship Fund

VanderCook hosts several events throughout the year
to support this scholarship, including:

A Night at the Pops

We offer numerous opportunities for you to share your passion for music education with VanderCook. Each year, we have A Night at the Pops. Special events like Pops generate over $70,000, all for institutional scholarship aid for our undergraduate students.

Attend a Night at the Pops with family, friends and colleagues. We promise you will meet some great people  fellow alumni and supporters of VanderCook  while having a wonderful time.

Donate items for our silent auction or become an event sponsor or encourage vendors and businesses you patronize to become event sponsors.

Below is a listing of available awards and scholarships funded by your donations to the Great Teachers Scholarship Fund:

Great Teachers Scholarship

Undergraduate, master’s and certification, and TCEP students who display very high levels of academic excellence and musical ability are referred to the president for award consideration for these $500–$3,000 scholarships. Awarded by VanderCook’s Admissions Committee, this scholarship is renewable provided the student maintains full-time enrollment status, earns a 3.0 semester GPA, and participates in ensembles as assigned. Full-time master's and certification or TCEP students must earn a 3.75 semester GPA.

Legacy Award

Undergraduate, master’s and certification, and TCEP students who have had a VanderCook alumnus as a music teacher are eligible for this $1,000 award given by VanderCook’s Admissions Committee. This grant automatically renews provided the student earns a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and maintains full-time status and participation in major ensembles as assigned.

Future Teachers Award

Awarded by VanderCook’s Admissions Committee, the $500 scholarship is for transfer or new undergraduate students. Students are not eligible if admitted on musical or academic probation. The grant is given for the first year of attendance, and is not renewable.

Needs-Based Award

This scholaship of $250–$2,000 is for undergrad students demonstrating financial need. Based on need according to VanderCook’s Financial Aid Office. Students must submit a FAFSA by December 1. Awards are reviewed annually based on need according to VanderCook’s Financial Aid Office.

Academic Excellence Award

First-time freshman graduating with at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale are eligible for this $1,000 award. Students must also score a composite 22 on their ACT or 1,100 composite SAT score (reading plus math). Awarded by VanderCook’s Admissions Committee. The award is renewable provided the student maintains full-time enrollment status, earns a 3.0 semester GPA, and participates in ensembles as assigned.

Dean's List Award

Full-time undergraduate students with a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher, and a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, are eligible for a $200 scholarship. Full-time master’s and certification or TCEP students with a semester GPA of 3.8 or higher, and a cumulative of 3.0 or higher, are also eligible. Grade reports are automatically evaluated at the end of each term. The award is applied to the following semester’s tuition and fees. 

Talent Award

All VanderCook students are eligible to apply for awards of up to $3,500. Award amounts are based on merit and the faculty evaluation of the audition. A completed application to VanderCook is required to receive this award. This grant automatically renews provided the student earns a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and maintains full-time status and participation in major ensembles as assigned.

Alumni Award

This $1,000 scholarship is awarded each spring to a junior-level student. Nominations are made by faculty and staff members, and are based on merit. This is a one-time award and is not renewable.

President's Award

Undergraduate, master’s and certification, and TCEP students who display the highest levels of academic excellence and musical ability are referred to the president for a $500–$5,000 award consideration. Awarded by VanderCook’s Admissions Committee, this scholarship is renewable provided the student maintains full-time enrollment status, earns a 3.25 semester GPA, and participates in ensembles as assigned. Full-time master and certification or TCEP students must earn a 3.75 semester GPA.

Esprit de Corps

This $250 scholarship is awarded each spring to five students; one each at the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior levels, as well as one master’s and certification or TCEP candidate. Nominations are made by faculty and staff members, and are based on merit. This is a one-time award and is not renewable.
