Day of Percussion

February 23, 2021

Day of Percussion allows percussion students to experience a day of master classes, clinics and performances. Performers get the opportunity to work directly with guest clinicians.

This event, featuring percussion soloists and ensembles from around the Chicago area, is a great opportunity to be immersed in percussion for an entire day. Each performing group will play selections of their choice then receive a clinic for the remainder of the 30-minute time slot. This is a great chance for ensembles to perform their solo/ensemble selections in front of a live audience.

Day of Percussion is coordinated by Dr. James Yakas, professor of percussion studies at VanderCook College of Music. Clinicians for 2021 will be announced soon.

To participate in Day of Percussion, please complete the registration form. For those interested in performing and receiving a clinic, performance times will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Day of Percussion Solo Festival

Each participant will have a 10-minute slot to perform and receive feedback for their solo. The solo may be performed on any percussion instrument. Snare drums, vibraphones, marimba and four timpani will be provided; any other instruments needed for the solo must be provided by the participant. The cost of the solo festival is $10 per student. The cost may be added to the payment for the school's ensemble.  Individuals not performing with an ensemble are also encouraged to participate.

An outstanding soloist from high school and middle school will be recognized.

Online registration for the solo festival is included in the registration form link above.
