Welcome to ChamberFest at VanderCook!

March 3 and 4, 2023 | March 6 – Orion Ensemble Recital

On Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4, VanderCook will welcome Yamaha Artist Hornist Larry Williams as part of the George A. Quinlan Series. During his residency, Mr. Williams will give a master class, seminar presentation, open rehearsal/performance, lunchtime Q & A session, and a series of chamber coachings with VCM groups and guest ensembles from Homewood Flossmoor High School.

Professional Development Units are available.

Attendance at all events is free and open to the public.

       10:30am-12:00pm Brass Masterclass – Teaching the Horn (featuring four soloists)

       1:00pm-2:20pm Open Lecture – Your Path to Mastery; Mental Focus: Zone Training 

       4:00pm-6:30pm Chamber Ensemble Coaching (VanderCook and Homewood-Flossmoor groups)

Saturday, March 4th

       9:00am-11:30pm – Chamber Ensemble Coaching  (VanderCook and Homewood-Flossmoor groups)

       11:30am-12:30pm  – Open rehearsal/performance/Q&A – VCM Brass Trio

       12:30pm-1:30pm  – Complimentary Lunch

       2:00pm-5:30pm – Chamber Ensemble Coaching  (VanderCook and Homewood-Flossmoor groups)

About Larry Williams

Hornist Larry Williams has distinguished himself as a multifaceted performing and recording artist, professor, coach, collaborator, innovator, and administrator. Williams is currently Artistic Director and Solo Horn of American Studio Orchestra, Principal Horn of Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra, and Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, and a member of The Lyric Brass Quintet. Williams served as Principal Horn of The New World Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and San Francisco Symphony Orchestras, among others. His wide range of musical styles include: solo, chamber music, orchestral, jazz, contemporary, film, and commercial music.

Williams has performed on tours of the US, Russia, China, Japan, and UK, and has performed with Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Arturo Sandoval, and others.

An active soloist and recitalist, Williams has premiered and recorded several horn concerti including: “Concerto for Horn and Wind Ensemble” by composer Thomas Bough, “The Black Forest Concerto for Horn and Orchestra” by composer James Schroeder and has recorded several solo and chamber music albums. Larry is a Yamaha Performing Artist & Clinician, and performs exclusively on Yamaha Custom Horns.

A passionate advocate for education, Williams has served on the faculty of The Johns Hopkins University Peabody Institute and Florida International University.
