Symphonic Band Performance @ Midwest Clinic: W375AB
December 20, 2024 @ 11:15 am - 12:30 pm
This will be the 78th annual performance of the VanderCook College of Music Symphonic Band at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Conference. As one of the founders, VanderCook is the only ensemble that has performed at every clinic since 1946. In addition to performing annually, VCM students also help run the event behind the scenes as ushers and set-up crew workers throughout the week.
This year’s program includes the 60th anniversary performance of Claude T. Smith’s “Emperata Overture,” premiered at The Midwest Clinic in 1964. Among eight brand new pieces, we are excited to be premiering “Joy Cometh in the Morning” by VanderCook alum, Steve Pyter. A special treat will be a combined performance with Dallas Brass on a new piece by Rick DeJonge. We welcome guest conductors Terry Austin, Bruce Moss, and Mary Schneider, all conducting premiers of new music.
