Symphonic Band Performance @ Midwest Clinic: W375AB
This will be the 79th annual performance of the VanderCook College of Music Symphonic Band at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Conference. As one of the founders, VanderCook is the only ensemble that has performed at every clinic since 1946. In addition to performing annually, VCM students also help run the event behind the scenes as ushers and set-up crew workers throughout the week.
This year’s featured classic piece is “Battaglia” by Francis McBeth. Among nine brand new pieces, we are excited to be premiering “Los Bailes Calientes” by VanderCook alum and Honorary Doctorate recipient, William Owens, who will also be conducting the work. Other guest conductors will include Dr. Amy Acklin and Lt. Col. Ryan Nowlin, and we welcome guest soloist Manuel Martinez of the Barcelona Clarinet Players. We will also be featuring our students singing a beautiful new work for band and choir by Michael Markowski.
