Course Description
Smith Walbridge Directors Clinic
The Directors Marching Band Clinic is comprehensive and covers a wide variety of topics designed to expand knowledge and skills for band directors of all styles and sizes of ensembles. The curriculum is appropriate for young directors looking for a “grassroots” resource, or for seasoned directors looking for new ideas. Because the Directors Clinic takes place during our first week of SWC Illinois, Directors will be exposed to all aspects of our marching band clinics. Date and Location: July 9th-12th on the campus of Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, IL (in-person only).
Cost: $395 (includes all housing, meals, instruction), or $290 (includes instruction and lunch/dinner during clinic duration).
Credits: VanderCook College of Music offers participants of Smith Walbridge – Directors Clinic an opportunity to earn 1 Graduate Credit (one semester hour) by attending clinic sessions followed by the submission of observation summary outlines and reflection essays. Total Observation, summary, and written reflection time must include 12.5+ hours.
Participants will be required to compile 6 session reports:
- Upload scans of handouts, concert programs, or share session links to Schoology (VanderCook’s Online learning platform) for each session.
- Develop written summary outlines of each session.
- Write personal reflection essay reports (2-3 pages) of each session.
All required course material must be completed and submitted by September 12, 2024.
