Playing and Teaching Ukulele

The ukulele has become one of the most popular instruments in music education, and with good reason: It’s inexpensive, portable and user-friendly for both teachers and students. This course covers everything you’ll need to know to start using the ukulele in your classroom, including uke anatomy, tuning, types and features, how to read chord diagrams, strumming patterns, popular chords and chord progressions. Suitable for absolute beginners through intermediate players.

The course is presented as 3 Units, each with three parts. Units are due every few weeks, giving students time and flexibility to complete all components, according to their personal schedules.

*This course is available at two levels:

• MMEd Program Students: If you’re enrolled in the MMEd program at VanderCook, register for the 500-level course in the student portal.

• MECA Continuing Education Students: If you’re not in the MMEd program but wish to earn graduate credit, register for the 7000/8000-level course.
