Overview

Reading harmony starts with knowing how to follow a score as well as how to decipher notation…two very complex skills. While it may sound daunting, there are simple ways to teach our singers how to follow their part in an octavo, empowering them and saving time in our rehearsals. Following the book 8 STEPS TO HARMONIZATION, this class will also examine the best ways to teach our students how to harmonize no matter what their age or experience. Playing instrumental harmony is an important way to hear and identify harmonization. But it is equally important to teach our students how to use their own instrument – their voice – to experience harmony. This is a critical step to understanding what harmony really is. Class participants will have several opportunities to practice leading our class using the concepts presented.
