Flat for Education is a versatile platform that enables music educators to teach and reinforce music literacy skills for students of all levels. All course participants will be provided access to Flat for Education at no additional cost. This course is designed for all music educators. We will explore the platform’s full capabilities. Participants will learn to design engaging activities that develop rhythm reading, sight-singing, harmonic analysis, and transcription skills. Participants will have access to a resource library with tutorials, lesson plans, and assignments. By the end of the course, educators will feel confident integrating Flat into their classrooms to enhance student learning and engagement.
Shemeka Nash is the Artistic Manager of Sistema Ravinia (Austin). Conducting all orchestras and wind ensembles. She was the Fine Arts Department Chair and Director of Bands at an International Baccalaureate high school in Chicago for 21 years. She was Academic Advisor for Modern Band Journal and is currently the DEI chair for Women Band Directors International (WBDI). She holds a BME from DePaul University and a MME from Northwestern University and holds National Board Teacher Certification. Shemeka is an active saxophonist in Chicago. Her professional memberships include Phi Beta Mu, Tau Beta Sigma, NAfME, ILMEA, JEN, WBDI, NBA and the International Conductor’s Guild.
