Overview

Learn the practical application of Kodály-influenced teaching in this hands-on course for elementary music educators. During this week-long course you will create resources, gather high-quality repertoire, and create concept and yearly plans to help simplify and strengthen your planning and instruction during the school year. While the basics of the philosophy and history of Zoltán Kodály will be discussed, this course will focus mainly on the practical application of Kodály-influenced pedagogy in a modern elementary classroom through a culturally-responsive lens.

This course meets in person from 8AM-5PM at VanderCook College of Music.

Bryson Tarbet

Bryson Tarbet teaches K-6th grade general music just outside of Columbus, Ohio. He received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Ohio Wesleyan University as well as a Master of Music in Music Education from Capital University. He also holds Kodály certification from the Kodály Institute at Capital University. Bryson serves as the instructional coach behind That Music Teacher, an online music education organization creating content-specific professional development for elementary music educators. Having spent his first year out of undergrad working in various roles supporting students with disabilities outside of the music classroom, Bryson is passionate about creating accessible classrooms and removing barriers to accessing music education for all students. While Bryson considers himself a Kodály-influenced educator, his philosophy of music education is always developed through a lens of equity, diversity, and inclusion on a variety of levels. At his core, Bryson believes that music truly is for everyone and has made it his mission to help empower other music educators to allow their classrooms to be a place where all students are able to have successful musical experiences.
