Course Description

Choral Music for Sopranos and Altos will give learners a survey of literature across musical eras and geography written for soprano/alto choirs appropriate for high school and advanced middle school choirs through adulthood.  A variety of literature resources will be presented as well as techniques to build a concert program. Special attention will be paid to music originally written for sopranos and altos, although quality transcriptions will also be present in the course.  The main course objective is to expand the course participants’ knowledge of and performance practice skills in music for soprano alto choirs.

* This course is offered at two course levels. Students enrolled in the MMEd program at VanderCook are eligible to enroll for the 500 course number. Students not enrolled in the MMEd program who wish to earn graduate credit as a MECA Continuing Education student should register for the 7000 course number. The difference in credits earned and tuition cost is attributed to the difference in tuition rates for the MMEd and MECA Continuing Education programs.
