Overview

Google Suite for Education provides a range of tools that can be used by music educators to create more creative and productive classrooms. Using these resources allows students to efficiently and effectively learn in a collaborative environment while gaining valuable career skills. This course will provide an overview of all Google tools, present applications in the music classroom, introduce integrated music software, and will end with the Google Level 1 Educator Certification Exam.

Please note: Students will have an additional $10.00 fee for the Google Certification Exam.

Schoology is a learning management system that allows you to interact directly with your instructors, fellow students, and members of the greater VanderCook community.

Soon after you register, be on the lookout for an email from Schoology with log-in instructions. Once you receive credentials, visit www.online.vandercook.edu to login.

You can expect all courses to meet together in a live online chat. If a live meeting time doesn’t work, you can work with your instructor to make other arrangements.

Instructor

Theresa Hoover

Theresa Hoover is a music educator, speaker, and writer. She is an advocate for student voice in the music room and works to empower students throughout their musical experiences and help teachers transform their classrooms to become student-centered learning environments. Theresa has taught instrumental, general, and vocal music in a variety of settings, most recently teaching middle school band in Northern Virginia. She holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Penn State University and a master’s degree in wind conducting from West Chester University, both in Pennsylvania. In the fall, Theresa will begin working toward a PhD in Music Learning and Teaching at Arizona State University. Theresa is a Google for Education Certified Trainer, Google Certified Innovator, and Noteflight Learn Ambassador, frequently working with teachers to help integrate technology into their music classes. She is a recognized presenter and clinician for local, regional, and national conferences and teaches summer graduate electives for music educators. Theresa is the author of Empowering Ensembles With Technology and the co-author of Pass the Baton: Empowering All Music Students. You can find her work online at www.offthebeatenpathinmusic.com.
