Wednesday, July 9 - Josh Kaminsky Lecture Demonstration: Jazz Improvisation

The topic is Teaching Jazz Improvisation in a Large Group Setting. The topics covered will include how to teach a large group of students jazz language and vocabulary using jazz warm-ups and blues licks. I will also be touching on creativity, confidence, and technology. Students from my high school will be participating as the demonstration group. They are really excited to come to Chicago and play for everyone!

VanderPuzzle Sales Extended

The Puzzle Raffle
One puzzle has been made, except for a single piece that it missing. An identical puzzle is now for sale and the individual who buys the piece that fits will receive complimentary admission to the Fundraiser Party taking place after the Poster Session on July 16th.
How much? You can buy 1 piece for $3 or 2 pieces for $5.
How do I buy a puzzle piece? See Mark, Lauren, or Chris Boemler to buy pieces. Our colleagues in the Chorale will be helping to promote this fundraiser. Puzzle pieces will be available after 10am today.
How do I win? Bring your puzzle pieces to the lobby on Thursday afternoon and see if your piece fits!

VanderYOGA - Tuesday's from 5:30-6:20pm in room 100

VanderYoga is a level one blend of Hatha and Vinyasa style Yoga. There are many benefits that can come from practicing Yoga. The two purposes of this class are first, to introduce beginners to Yoga with basic poses and relaxation techniques while linking breath with movement. And secondly, to help relieve the musicians body and mind of physical and psychological stress through regular stretching and awareness of the 'self' through movement.This is a non competitive environment and everyone of all levels are encouraged to attend!
Bring a bath towel or yoga mat and wear clothes you can move freely in. A water bottle is suggested.

Seth Boustead, who teaches string arranging at VanderCook, has an event coming up that he thinks the Vandercook community might really like. It's a two hour live broadcast of His WFMT radio show Relevant Tones and features some of the hottest classical music performers in town and one big name from Austin, TX.
It's on July 12 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at City Winery, 1200 W. Randolph, right by the green line Lake stop. They gave him a half price discount code for anyone at Vandercook interested in going, which will bring the ticket cost down to $10. The code is
