Bryan Jamison, B '15

Bryan Jamison attended Senior Day in 2011 and is now a senior at VanderCook.

Senior Day was a lot of fun.  It gave me a lot of insight into the teaching philosophy of the school and I was able to meet and talk with the current students. It was a great experience to sit in with the Symphonic Band and see all of the small ensembles perform for us.  I came with my mom and that was a good idea - she asked questions I never would have thought of and having her there helped to calm my nerves.

The major thing that drew me to VanderCook was how right from the start you start off on the Music Education track and really spent a lot of time on all the subject matter. One thing that really stood out was the amount of time you spend on each instrument, where as some of the other schools I visited only required that you learn a secondary instrument and that was it. That kind of went against my line of thinking - "How can you teach something that you dont know how to play?!"

Another reason I picked this school was how nice and friendly the entire student body were to me even though I was just a prospective student at the time. Everyone here is so passionate about music and teaching. The application process was very easy, the staff was extremely helpful, and any questions I had were answered as soon as they could.
