Application Procedure

Students considering enrolling in VanderCook College of Music should contact the Admissions Office. Our admissions personnel are trained to assist you in completing your application, and to answer your questions about the college. Applicants for the Master of Music Education and Certification (MCert) program should observe the following procedures:

  1. Complete the Graduate Application. Apply online or submit a printable version.
  2. Contact the admissions office to schedule an audition/interview.
  3. Submit all official transcripts. This includes both the transcript showing degree conferral and any other transcripts showing baccalaureate coursework. Applicants whose undergraduate cumulative grade point average falls below a 3.0 must take the GRE and have the scores submitted to the Admissions Office before an admissions decision can be made.
  4. Submit one of the following:
     - The Illinois State Board of Education Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP)
     - ACT scores* showing a composite score of 22 or higher AND a score of 19 or higher on the writing section, or
     - SAT scores* showing a composite of 1030 (verbal plus math) and a writing score.
  5. Applicants are notified of admissions decisions after admissions files are complete. (In general, this decision is made within two weeks of receipt of all materials, although delays may occur during semester breaks.)
  6. VanderCook has a rolling deadline for the MCert program; however, in order for accepted students to receive an official transcript evaluation and advising appointment, a $100 deposit must be submitted with signed offers of acceptance. This deposit is non-refundable.

* Test must have been completed within the past 10 years.
