Applied Guitar

"I am extremely lucky that my life, work, and play are all filled with music.  Each day I get to perform, teach, rehearse, and study music, and this is my job!  I love passing this opportunity on to my students."

An active recitalist she has been nominated to the Heartland and Illinois Arts Council Touring Roster and was named Guitarist of The Year by Classical Guitar Alive magazine.

Life at VanderCook

The VanderCook experience is like no other. The place is charged with energy and the air literally is filled with music. Students are working hard to attain good grades, perfect their performing abilities, and become the best music educators possible. As a guitar student in this community, you will have weekly private lessons with me focusing on classical guitar technique, fret board harmony, and classical repertoire. Your development as a performing musician is a critical and enjoyable component in your development as a successful music educator. You will play in the Classical Guitar Ensemble as well as in the Jazz Band or Jazz Combo. In addition to expanding your skills on the guitar, you will also learn to play and teach brass, woodwind, and string instruments. You will sing in the choir, and in your junior year, you will take the podium to conduct the full VanderCook Symphonic Band, Philharmonic Orchestra, or Chamber Choir in a public performance. When you graduate from VanderCook, you will not only be an extraordinary guitarist and guitar teacher, you will also be prepared to take the lead in just about any music teaching situation.

Are you thinking about becoming a music teacher? If so, I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have about teaching music. I'd also love to chat with you about what VanderCook has to offer and what you can expect if you choose to study guitar here. Feel free to contact me at for more information.
