Ashley R. Burtonis currently a junior at VanderCook College of Music working towards her bachelor of music education degree. She is originally from Waller, Texas and has been involved with music since the sixth grade. She plays the trumpet in VanderCook's Symphonic Band and Brass Ensemble. After graduation, Ashley plans to teach and perform in different countries.


Program Notes

"For the New Day Arisen"by Steven Barton is a short fanfare written for the rebirth of an aging school structure that was renovated. It was written and premiered in 1997. This piece utilizes compositional techniques used in modern fanfares such as the use of woodwind colors and percussion instruments. The composer, Steven Barton, has obtained degrees in music education and percussion performance. He teaches in public schools mainly in South Dakota, North Dakota, and Virginia.
