Illinois State Teacher Licensure

Candidates may submit an application to the Illinois State Board of Education to receive the Illinois Special K-12 Type 10 Certificate in Music upon completion of the following:

• All required coursework, student teaching, comprehensive examinations, and institutional obligations.
• Recommendation for certification, submitted to the state office by VanderCook.
• All three pertinent Illinois teacher certification examinations*:
  • Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP)
  • Music Content-Area Test
  • Assessment of Professional Teaching (APT) Test
• Satisfactory completion of a federal fingerprint criminal background check.

*The State of Illinois allows a lifetime maximum of five attempts to pass any certification test.

This certificate is subject to renewal based upon ISBE requirements.
