This course focuses on advanced techniques and teaching of the Orff Schulwerk approach using the five volumes of Music for Children, Margaret Murray edition by Orff and Keetman. Explore performance, improvisation, analysis and composition, with an emphasis on the 21st-century vision of teaching as a basis to encourage students to collaborate, take risks, discover and become their own composers using all five volumes as a model. Assessments to the music core and ties into a cohesive curriculum will also be addressed. Please bring all five volumes and recorders. 

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Orff Schulwerk Teacher Education Level III
Required Materials: Music for Children by Carl Orff & Gunild Keetman, Volumes I-V

Instructor: Chris Judah-Lauder

Judah_Lauder,_Chris_headshot_2011Chris Judah-Lauder has taught music and movement to grades 5-8 at Good Shepherd Episcopal School of Dallas for the past 31 years. Judah-Lauder graduated from Indiana University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education, and is the immediate past president of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. She is serving as Conference Co-Chair for the 2017 AOSA Conference in Fort Worth, Texas. Judah-Lauder received her Orff levels training at Illinois and Hamline University, and her master’s from Richard Gill. She is an active clinician for in-service staff developments, Orff Schulwerk chapters, and state music education conferences. She has 16 publications to her name, and her writing has been published in The Echo, Reverberations, MENC journal and with McGraw-Hill.
