Technology is a powerful and flexible tool that can help inspire teaching and the creative process. By becoming familiar with and utilizing digital media and music tools, both software- and cloud-based, we can develop and customize engaging resources for the classroom and rehearsal room that will support our students’ learning. This course explores and evaluates a wide spectrum of cloud- and software-based tools that will help participants create digital media resources for the classroom, as well as provide techniques for increased productivity. Topics include basic digital audio recording and editing; effectively using online productivity tools, including wikis and blogs; creating online presentations and podcasts; creating screencasts that support the “flipped classroom” environment; creating a simple template-based website that can be used both as a teaching tool and a portfolio of student work; and, best practices for managing, organizing, storing and sharing a variety of digital file types. This hands-on, project-based course is relevant for general, instrumental and choral music educators at all levels.

Stefani Langol is a music educator, clinician, author, and education technology consultant. She is Associate Professor of Music Education at Berklee College of Music and also serves as the technology coordinator for the Music Education department. In addition, Stefani is an adjunct Assistant Professor at Boston Conservatory of Music, where she teaches music technology classes for the Masters in Music Education program. 

She is a certified instructor for the Technology Institute for Music Educators (TI:ME) and offers graduate credit and TI:ME national certification courses at numerous sites throughout the Northeast. In addition, Stefani served as editor-in-chief of the TI:MEs newsletter from 1997-2004 and the technology editor for the Massachusetts Music Educators Journal from 2004-2012. For over twenty years Stefani has designed and delivered technology training to k-12 and higher education music educators, and has been a featured presenter at numerous state, national, and international music educator conferences,including New York, Pennsylvania, California, Ohio, Rhode Island, Florida, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Texas, Illinois, and Quebec, Toronto, and Nelson, Canada.

Stefani is a co-author of the Alfred Music Tech Series, which includes Playing Keyboard, Music Production and MIDI Sequencing, Composing with Notation Software, andthe accompanying Teacher’s Guide: Book 1. In addition, she has published several articles on music technology that have appeared in the Music Educators Journal, Music Education Technology Magazine, Music and Computers, Artists House, and Massachusetts Music Educators Journal.
