Technology Integration for the Modern Music Educator

ONLINE:

This course is intended for elementary and secondary music educators who want to effectively integrate technology into the music curriculum. Throughout this course, participants will experience a variety of technologies including audio recording/editing, MIDI recording/editing, music notation, music theory and ear training applications, video editing, and Google applications. Participants will learn the functionality of each application and, more importantly, how to use those applications with students to enhance music instruction. Participants will develop technology-based music classroom lesson plans that can be implemented in the teacher’s classroom.

Instructor: Keith Ozsvath

Ozsvath,_Keith_headshot_2013Keith Ozsvath has been sharing his lifelong passion for music with the students at Rotolo Middle School in Batavia, IL, a three-time NAMM Best Community for Music Education, since 2000. Ozsvath currently leads the Symphonic Band, Eighth Grade Band, and Jazz Ensemble, while finding unique ways to integrate technology to enhance his students’ learning. He extends his combined love of music and teaching beyond the walls of his classroom as an active clinician. His website, Teaching Band & More, provides music educators with practical ideas and expertise to improve their teaching. Ozsvath has presented numerous professional development sessions for music educators at the Midwest Clinic, Virginia Music Educators Association, Illinois Music Educators Conference, the Association of Middle Level Educators, and VanderCook College of Music. His dedication to teaching has been recognized with the Chicagoland Outstanding Music Educator award in 2015, and twice by Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. In 2017, Ozsvath was honored with an Exemplary Educator Award from the Batavia CANDO parent organization. Most recently, he was inducted to the Nazareth Academy Fine Arts Hall of Fame (his high school alma mater) in 2018. He has had the distinguished honor of being an Illinois Summer Youth Music conductor at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, and is the co-founder and coordinator for the Middle School Concert Band Camp at the Music for All Summer Symposium held at Ball State University.

VanderCook Online is powered by Schoology (www.schoology.com). Through this learning management system, you'll be able to interact directly with your instructor, students in your classes, and members of the greater VanderCook Online community.
 
Fall MECA courses officially begin on Monday, September 28. Soon after you register, you'll be added as a new Schoology user. Be on the lookout for an email from Schoology with log-in instructions. Once you are given credentials, simply visit www.online.vandercook.edu to login. On the morning of September 28, you'll have access to your classroom and course material.
 
Some courses have specific online chat meeting times (please see course descriptions), while others have a flexible meeting schedule. You can expect all courses to meet together in a live online chat. If a live meeting time doesn’t work, you can work with your instructor to make other arrangements.
You’ll have the opportunity to work at your own pace each week while completing assignments and posting responses to discussion questions. You’ll constantly be interacting with your instructor and classmates online, and working through new material each week. We know how crazy school schedules can get, so our instructors try to make everything as flexible as possible!
 
Online grades will be reported by mid-December. If you are in need of a transcript please visit the online transcript request page. If you are in need a quick turn around time for your transcript please submit the transcript request to the registrar prior to the end of your course(s).
