History of the Musical Stage

ONLINE:
September 23December 15, 2019

The Phantom didn’t find his “Music of the Night,” Elphaba didn’t “Defy Gravity” and Hamilton didn’t get into “The Room Where It Happened” if not for all of the touchstone musicals that set foot on the Great White Way from years before.  From Vaudeville to Ziegfield, Gershwin to Sondheim, the heartbeat of the American Musical Theatre spans the gamut in style, texture, storytelling and more.

Join professor Christopher Sapienza (who also co-teaches
Your Musical: From Selection To Strike) in exploring the link from past to present of the stage musical in this new class.

Instructor: Christopher Sapienza

As a member of Actors’ Equity Association, Screen Actors Guild and AFTRA, Christopher Sapienza’s performance background spans the gamut from singing backup for Broadway’s Linda Eder and renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli to staring in Disney Cruise Line productions. His stage and screen highlights include Crazy For You, The Dinosaur Musical, The Full Monty, Moonlight and Magnolias, Law & Order: SVU, Fringe, Unbreakable and 12 Monkeys. He was the voice for David Bridal and sang the national anthem for the Philadelphia Phillies for three winning seasons. Sapienza also heads the music program at Overbrook School for the Blind in Philadelphia and is an adjunct professor in the theatre department at Delaware County Community College.
