Sharon Burch is a National Board Certified Teacher in Early and Middle Childhood Music, a certified teacher with the International Piano Teaching Foundation, and holds a master’s degree as a Professional Educator. Sharon develops educational materials that make abstract concepts fun and easy for children to learn. During her 20+ years teaching prek through high school vocal and general music, she authored the national best-selling Freddie the Frog Book series, interactive storybooks that teach basic concepts of music, including a kid-friendly introduction to jazz, elementary musicals, and other jazz education teaching resources for the classroom setting. Sharon chairs the Jazz Education Network Education Committee, and serves as an elementary education consultant for Jazz At Lincoln Center. With the recent demand for music teachers to find ways to incorporate the Common Core State Standards into their music classroom, Sharon authored the practical teaching resources Sticks! Building Math & Music Connections and Making Sense of the Common Core in K-5 Music (2015 release), making it easy for music teachers to understand and implement Common Core while maintaining music education first.

The summer online term officially begins on Monday, June 10. The week prior to June 10, you'll be added as a new Schoology user. Be on the lookout for an email from noreply@schoology.com or wfong@vandercook.edu with log-in instructions. Once you are given credentials, simply visit www.online.vandercook.edu to login. On the morning of June 10, you'll have access to your classroom and course material.

Some courses have specific online chat meeting times (please see course descriptions), while others have a flexible meeting schedule. You can expect all courses to meet together in a live online chat. If a live meeting time doesn’t work, you can work with your instructor to make other arrangements.

You’ll have the opportunity to work at your own pace each week while completing assignments and posting responses to discussion questions. You’ll constantly be interacting with your instructor and classmates online, and working through new material each week. We know how crazy summer schedules can get, so our instructors try to make everything as flexible as possible!
