Building on the skills acquired in Level II, this course includes arranging/composition using major/minor and other diatonic modes with appropriate ostinato and harmony-based accompaniments. Recorder ensemble experience and group composition in larger forms are also covered. Texts will be provided, but you must bring your own alto recorder (or tenor or bass recorders, if you have them).
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Orff Schulwerk Teacher Education Course Level II.
Instructors: Chris Judah-Lauder, Cynthia Seputis & Jean Hersey
Chris Judah-Lauder teaches music and movement to grades 5-8 at Good Shepherd Episcopal School of Dallas. She is the President of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association and has served as past National Conference Chair, Local Conference Chair, and Region Representative. She received her Orff Certification at Hamline University and her master’s with Richard Gill at St. Paul University. She has 14 publications to her name, is a contributing author of Macmillan/McGraw-Hill’s “Spotlight on Music,” and is an active presenter and clinician.
Cynthia Seputis has a B.S. in Music Ed from the University of Illinois and a Masters of Music Ed from Northwestern University. She completed all three levels of her Orff training at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Cynthia has taught K-5 general music at George B. Carpenter Elementary School in Park Ridge, Illinois for the past twenty-two years. She is a regional presenter and is proud to have been part of the VanderCook Orff team since the program's inception ten years ago.
Jean Hersey is a National Board certified teacher at Deer Path Middle School in Lake Forest, IL, where she has worked for the past 14 years. She teaches fifth and sixth grade general music. In 2012, she won the district’s Innovative Practice Award for her Spring General Music Show, which incorporated music, art, drama, and social studies curricula, and reflected the Medieval and Renaissance time periods. Hersey is also Level I Pedagogy and Movement instructor at VanderCook College of Music.
