Recital Highlights

Join some of Chicagoland’s most successful school choir directors for this highly engaging gateway to bringing the best out of young singers. In addition, there will be plenty of opportunity to sing through choral music that works - new pieces as well as tried and true classics - from a variety of composers and publishers. This will be a unique opportunity for elementary and middle school choir teachers to pick the brains of the best and learn how they get the most out of their students.

Instructors: Cathy DeLanoy, Puja Ramaswamy & Guests

DeLanoy,_Cathy_headshot_2013
Catherine DeLanoy is a musician currently living in the suburbs of Chicago. She has taught music at every grade level in the public school system and has recently retired from teaching at Westmont Junior High School where she taught general music and directed their four choirs. WJH choirs consistently earned top scores, honors and prestigious performances under her direction.

Ms. DeLanoy enjoyed arranging compositions for her choirs and continues to have her octavos published by Hal Leonard, Shawnee Press, Boosey & Hawkes, Bri-Lee Music and Carl Fischer Inc. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.  She went on to earn her Masters of Music Education degree from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. Her resource book, WARMING UP WITH ROUNDS (Shawnee Press), is a staple in many classrooms. Her newest release is the resource book 8 STEPS TO HARMONIZATION (Shawnee Press).

In addition to composing, she sings professionally as a member and soloist with the critically acclaimed Chicago Choral Artists.  She can be heard on many of their numerous concert CDs. Ms. DeLanoy enjoys occasionally teaching graduate classes at VanderCook College of Music. She also works as a middle school specialist doing clinics for Hal Leonard, and enjoys being an instructor, clinician, conductor, and adjudicator whenever possible.
