Pre-K-5 SMART Board Fun, Part 2

This course builds on the skills acquired in the introductory course. Learn how to build clear, organized lessons with animated PowerPoint and SMART Board/interactive whiteboard instruction. Add style to your lessons and assessments for enhanced clarity by integrating rich media such as sound, animation and the Internet. Lessons, assessments and activities will be explored using iPads alone and in conjunction with interactive whiteboards. Effective ideas and activities integrating curricular objectives using dance, song, story, poetry, speech, instruments, children’s literature, active listening, improvisation and notated composition will be covered. The iPad section will focus on using apps and tools that facilitate collaborative work, critical reasoning, and real-time music making.

Instructor: Manju Durairaj

durairaj_manjuManju Durairaj was born and raised in India. She studied in London, England, and was involved in graduate research projects on comparative pedagogical practices of Indian (carnatic) and Western Music. She graduated with her second master’s degree from VanderCook College of Music, Chicago. Manju is certified in Orff-Schulwerk, completing her levels training at VanderCook College, George Mason University, University of St. Thomas, and at the Orff Institute in Salzburg, Austria. Manju currently teaches Pre K-5 general music at the Latin School of Chicago. She is president of the Greater Chicago Orff Chapter. She has presented at ISME, AOSA, OAKE, ILMEA, ECMMA, MKMEA and NAfME (formerly MENC) and has been published in the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education.

WEEKEND MECA COURSES

Saturday classes are generally held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Two 15-minute breaks and one 30-minute lunch break are scheduled. Sunday classes are generally held from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with one 15-minute break scheduled. Individual schedules and break times may vary per individual instructor.
