Introduction To Orff Schulwerk

Explore the Orff approach at a basic level in this highly popular course! Learn how to read Orff scores, understand Orff terminology, and develop lessons in the Orff style. Lessons will focus on melody, rhythm and harmony as well as timbre as they pertain to elementary general music. Plan on lots of activity, including singing, playing Orff instruments, recorder and movement. Please dress comfortably and bring a soprano recorder.

Instructor: Jean Hersey

hersey_jeanJean Hersey is a National Board certified teacher at Deer Path Middle School in Lake Forest, IL, where she has worked for the past 14 years. She teaches fifth and sixth grade general music. In 2012, she won the district’s Innovative Practice Award for her Spring General Music Show, which incorporated music, art, drama, and social studies curricula, and reflected the Medieval and Renaissance time periods. Hersey is also Level I Pedagogy and Movement instructor at VanderCook College of Music.

WEEKEND MECA COURSES

Saturday classes are generally held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Two 15-minute breaks and one 30-minute lunch break are scheduled. Sunday classes are generally held from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with one 15-minute break scheduled. Individual schedules and break times may vary per individual instructor.
