What You NEED to Know

Acceptance Letters

Once a student has completed their application and audition their file is ready to be considered for acceptance.  During the decision process our admissions office staff, in conjuction with the President and Dean, discuss each applicant.  Notification of acceptance as well as institutional scholarships will be included in the initial offer of acceptance.

Should a student decide to accept our offer of admittance, they must return their signed offer of acceptance with a $100 deposit.

Financial Aid

Maintaining close and frequent contact with the financial aid office is crucial to the admissions process.  At VanderCook College of Music, we realize that no two families are the same, and our Financial Aid Office will work with you to create a financial assistance plan and payment plan to meet your educational expenses. VCM Financial Aid staff help in both the search for financial aid and the application process.

VanderCook and the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT)

As full affiliates of the IIT campus, VanderCook students live, eat, and play alongside IIT students. Students from each school can take courses at the other, and IIT students often participate in ensembles, lessons and classes at VanderCook.

New Student Orientation

New Student Orientation is a 24-hour event held annually on a weekend toward the end of June.  This is a great opportunity for new students to get to know the school, the city of Chicago and other new students before classes start in August.  It's also a fantastic way for new "VanderParents" to spent time getting to know the staff, "old" VanderParents and each other.  Students spend Friday night in the city enjoying pizza and exploring the city while parents are treated to an Italian dinner and private tour of Chicago.

Class registration, financial aid meetings and much more are taken care of during orientation weekend.

Concert Attire

VanderCook College of Music has implemented a uniform concert dress policy for all  students.  This policy was student-initiated and reflects the goals of uniformity, elegance, and professionalism for numerous performances throughout the year.  Students worked with our president, the undergraduate and graduate deans, and faculty to decide on an appropriate uniform look for both the women and men at VanderCook.

Male students will be required to purchase and wear a tuxedo for all formal concerts and performances. Female students will be fitted for their required concert attire during New Student Orientation weekend.

Immunizations

Illinois Public Act 85-1315 requires that all students show proof of immunizations against measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus, and diphtheria.  Students residing in the IIT dorms must also submit proof of immunization against meningitis.  The admissions office will provide a form to newly accepted students prior to orientation. Immunization records must be on file before classes begin.
