Books and other materials are available in the library to help our students improve and sharpen their basic skills. These materials will help prepare the student to pass the Illinois State Board of Education teacher certification tests in order to be eligible to teach in Illinois. These include the Basic Skills Test, Content Test and Assessment of Professional Teaching Test. The Basic Skills Collection includes materials on writing, reading comprehension, critical thinking, grammar, and math. These materials can be checked out or used in the library. In addition to texts, online resources are also available.
To find these materials in the library's catalog, use the advanced search feature. Type an asterisk (*) in the search box and limit your search to "Collection: Basic Skills." Search the library catalog.

The Basic Skills collection at Ruppel Library was established with a “Back to Books” grant from the Illinois State Library, with funds from the federal Library Services and Technology Act. The program aims to strengthen the language arts and math skills of our teacher candidates, encouraging them to test high on their certification exams and to excel as teachers.
