On September 4, 2014,, junior year tubist Jacob Bass was killed in a tragic bicycle accident. A scholarship has been established in his memory. Jacob's incredible passion for music and teaching will impact many aspiring young teachers.

Jacob Bass began as a saxophone  player. During his time in the Rich East High School Band program, he switched to tuba and at VanderCook he excelled in not only learning new instruments, but in also helping others to do the same. Jacob was a recognized leader in his community who will be remembered by his incredible faith, his enthusiasm for music, and the positive impact he had on everyone he met. Jacob's scholarship will be awarded annually to a first-year tuba player.
