Kaye L. Clements Flute Scholarship

At the end of the Spring 2012 semester, Kaye Clements retired from her duties at VanderCook College of Music.  Clements joined the VanderCook faculty in 1989 and served as undergraduate dean, and professor of applied flute and music history.  Clements is a remarkable musician, scholar, teacher, leader, advocate, and friend.  Everyone with whom she has worked or who has had the honor to study with her has been inspired by her wisdom, generous spirit, scholarship, and musicianship.  At their March 2012 meeting, the board of trustees voted to confer emeritus status on Clements in recognition of her service to the college and to the music education community.

As a way of honoring Clements’ contribution to the VanderCook community and to help preserve her legacy, VanderCook established the Kaye L. Clements Flute Scholarship.  Alumni and colleagues were invited to contribute to this new fund to establish the opening principal.  Scholarships will be awarded to flute majors in the undergraduate program.

Recipients of the scholarship include:

  • Vicki Shoemaker 2012-2013
