MECA: Guitar Class Let's Get Started

This session will provide you with tools and techniques to organize and develop a classroom guitar program. Instructor: Dr. Julie Goldberg Location: Room 100.

 

Interested in starting a guitar class or program in your school but don’t know where to begin? This session will provide you with tools and techniques to organize and develop a classroom guitar program. You will also learn the skills needed to play chords and accompany your general music class, choir, or any other musical group with the guitar. Dr. Goldberg will discuss repertoire, equipment, organization, and teaching activities to get you on your way. Exercise examples, repertoire, and bibliography will be provided. No previous guitar playing experience required.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: 6-string classical or steel string guitar (acceptable). No electric guitars please. Please bring at least one (1) teardrop-shaped, medium-gauge guitar pick.

Please contact Pete Frasso, Director of Ensembles and Outreach, at (312) 788-1141 at least one week prior to class if you need to check out a guitar for the weekend.
