Victor Zajec Collection
Victor Zajec was born on March 4, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois. Victor Zajec received his B.M.Ed. and M.M.Ed. in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music, and was awarded an honorary doctorate by the College. He taught instrument repair and musical acoustics at VanderCook College of Music, and held the positions of Director of Bands and Dean of the Graduate School. Zajec served as Secretary of the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic Board of Directors, was a charter member of the Illinois Bandmasters Hall of Fame, chairman of the Edwin Franko Goldman Citation Committee, and chairman of the Sousa Foundation Historic Roll of Honor committee. Zajec studied under Jerome Stowell and Lillian Poenisch. He performed with the Northshore Concert Band, and was a nationally known guest conductor and adjudicator. His publications span the musical gamut from teaching to the history of the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic. Victor Zajec died in 2005. Established in 1999, the collection includes the following series: Midwest Band Clinic, Published Sheet Muisc, Teaching Materials, photographs, Student Materials, H.A. VanderCook Materials, H.E.
