CAA Annual Holiday Party
Chicago Area Archivists members and listserv
subscribers are invited to join us at the social event
of the season: the annual CAA Holiday Party!
The CAA will be welcoming the holidays with our usual
panache on Tuesday, December 4, from 6-8 pm.
We’ll be convening at Edwardo’s Pizza in historic Printer’s
Row, 521 South Dearborn (a block or two from the Harold Washington Library--see
map below).
Hope you can join us for lots of stuffed pizza and the opportunity to
hobnob with your colleagues from Chicagoland. Last year over 40 people
attended the Holiday Partylet’s see how many we can fit into
the larger space at Edwardo’s!
Food is funded by the CAA (your membership dues at work); cash bar. *****RSVP to Janet Olson, j-olson@northwestern.edu (847-491-3136). We
need to tell Edwardo's how much pizza to prepare, so please respond by
November 29.
Edwardo’s is located near several el stops and parking lots.
More parking info will follow in a reminder message! The restaurant’s
phone number is (312) 939-3366.
Feel free to bring colleagues who might be interested in joining the
CAA.
Incidentally, the party will be a great time to renew
or initiate your membership in the CAA. Dues for 2008 are $10.

Life
Repository: Sisters of The Living Word Archives,
Arlington Heights
Description: Sr. Genevieve Shea will celebrate 70 years
of religious life in June. Recently, she retired at 87 from an impressive
16
year career
as archivist for the Sisters of the Living Word (SLW). Shea’s
accomplishments include creating and maintaining a searchable
database to accompany a
collection of over 2,000 records and artifacts, writing a brief
history of the SLW,
and working with an oral history task force that recorded, transcribed,
and printed the words of over 70 sisters. In 1998, she built
the website slw.org. She was editor for ACWR (Archivists for
Congregations
of Women
Religious) News, and a member of SAA-ARCs. In her early career,
she was librarian at Mallinckrodt College, Wilmette, IL (1968-1972)
and
briefly
at the Eastside Vicariate School, Detroit, MI.
Cards can be sent

Posted 6/1/06: Chicago Jewish Archives (Spertus) closing
researcher services
Repository: Chicago Jewish Archives (Spertus Institute
of Jewish Studies)
Description: The Chicago Jewish Archives is closing researcher
services as of July 1, 2006 in order to prepare our collections for moving
to
the new Spertus building, now under construction next door to our
current location,
618 South Michigan. During the coming year, we will focus on upgrading
our cataloging and collection guides, digitizing photographs, and
preparing collections to be safely moved. We look forward to being able
to offer
improved public service in the new building, which is expected to
open in late 2007.
