Sixth Annual History Symposium
|
Chicago Area Medical Archivists (CAMA) The Chicago Area Medical Archivists (CAMA) is an informal group of archivists, librarians, healthcare professionals, and others interested in medical history in the Chicago area. The group held its first meeting in February 2002 at the American College of Surgeons. CAMA is represented by a variety of professional and clinical specialty associations, academic medical centers, universities, hospitals and local historians. The purpose of the group is to serve as a professional network to share information and resources through meetings, an annual symposium, and a mailing list. CAMA promotes collaborative efforts among participating members and their employing institutions, and increased awareness and appreciation of the Chicago area's important medical history for the research community and general public. CAMA advocates preservation and access to local archival resources and endeavors to provide information for researchers. Since October 2002, CAMA has sponsored a medical history symposium hosted by member institutions. Past symposia have featured presentations by archivists, librarians, physicians and nurses, institutional exhibits, roundtable discussions and facility tours. CAMA maintains a mailing list for its members for the purposes of sharing professional information, meeting announcements, events and news of note. Meetings are open to all interested persons, who should feel free to add their names to the group’s e-mail mailing list.
