CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

Find excellence, achievement, motivation, performance, and recognition. We are proud to support students in achieving certification through such nationally recognized assessment programs as RACE (Royal American Conservatory Examinations) or RCM (Royal Conservatory of Music). Piano students also have the option to participate in the evaluation programs offered by ISMTA (Illinois State Music Teachers Association) and CAMTA (Chicago Area Music Teachers Association). For further information on how you can participate in this, please contact your private instructor or Yu-Sui Hung, program director.

A limited number of scholarships are available for all types of lesson.

PERFORMANCE/ENSEMBLE OPPORTUNITIES

Discover the joy of making music and the excitement of performance. The Community Music Academy offers ensemble performance opportunities through the Chicago Community Classical Guitar Ensemble and the VanderCook College of Music Philharmonic Orchestra.

Chicago Community Classical Guitar Ensemble
The Chicago Community Classical Guitar Ensemble is looking for new members. Founded in 1997 by Dr. Julie Goldberg, the ensemble consists of guitarists from all walks of life. Most have professions outside of music; some are full-time guitar students, and a few are professional guitarists and teachers. All share a love of the instrument and enjoy the challenges and rewards of working and performing together in this ensemble.

In addition to presenting concerts at VanderCook, the Chicago Community Classical Guitar Ensemble has performed at the 1999 and 2001 Mid-American Guitar Ensembles Festival, the St. Mary of the Woods Concert Series, Tinley Park Landmark Church Concert Series, Elmhurst Art Museum, and St. Xavier and North Park Universities.

Tuition: $125 for a full session, or $10 per week for a partial session. Please contact Yu-Sui Hung, program director, to schedule an audition.

VanderCook Philharmonic Orchestra
The VanderCook Philharmonic Orchestra is a large ensemble dedicated to the performance of orchestral literature of varying levels of difficulty. Through this ensemble, students are acquainted with the styles, forms, and harmonic structures used by various composers.

The VanderCook Philharmonic performs several times throughout the year. Members of the orchestra come from VanderCook College, the Illinois Institute of Technology, Illinois College of Optometry, and the surrounding community. The VanderCook Philharmonic has openings in the violin, viola, cello, and bass sections. Please contact Yu-Sui Hung, program director, to schedule an audition.
